(Turns on Wale's Artistic Integrity) I will try to not be too direct so I do not ruin it for those who are still about to run and pay like 12 dollars a piece for them and they boo....
Dear Marvel,
I have engaged in your work for a very long time. From the traveling space voyagers that made the Fantastic Four, to the web-throwing Spiderman, to the shield wielding Captain himself. I have been glued to WB (NOW CW...WEAK!!) and any other stations that would provide me with enough entertainment to contain my colossal imagination.
Now, I come to you as a humble fan asking why? Why? Why? Why? Now, obviously money talks and two feets walk, but this is becoming a very, very sad, effin disappointment to life! Lets first list the Mutants that came and flopped since they have been publicized to the big screen!!
Marvel Failures
The first production of the Hulk (are you serious you had to do the HULK in nothing but CGI!! sigh)
Daredevil which should teach you to Never let the blind lead the blind or star in there own movie...
Electra...which was probably not even given an honorable mention...And I would probably watch a light bulb flicker for three hours before watching that movie...
Spiderman is my favorite movie of all time...but a lot of people were disappointed with part 3...but whatever I suppose...
and the X-Men saga's have been pretty fishy (no pun intended)and it really hurts (wipes tears) because the cartoon was friggin amazing!! They were trying to include every single X-men ever fathomed in the very last one.
I think Ghost Rider was one and I just do not recall me caring about that film at all...and now to the MAIN EVENT...
Wolverine...Was it really that much to Marvel??!?!?
Well, you know me and my roommate were STUPID excited about this movie!! Of course because of the trailers (which have been fooling movie-goers HEAVY this past year i.e Watchmen and a few others I can not pull up enough strength to stimulate a nerve to help me remember.) This movie...was...uh...like, I do not even know where to begin...like what did you guys hope to portray with Mr. Claws...like, me and my roommate both agreed that it was not to the level of X-cellence as it should have been at.
My roommate felt like what did they wanted wolverine to be too many things...like was he supposed to be witty, funny, mean, serious, beasty, or what...and we all know Wolverine for his inside jokes (that always pisses off his enemy) and his outlandish comments...but that is a small problem that I can look over...
Like, how deep did you really wanna go into this story...and its very delicate when you are bringing these comic books to life because they are all linked and they all have one part that links to another which adds its own importance to each story...so something is gonna be missing. A
nd me and my roommate discussed how was "Transformers" was so on point and these other movies based off child hood stories can not get it together...Well, I kind of answered that question...its because there is TOOOOO much of a storyline behind every single X-men...Look them up and I am sure you will be confused...like for example...does Wolverine wanna knock the hail out of storm or does he wanna show Jean Grey what that Adamantium steel feels like...(I know he likes Jean, but there are episodes in the cartoon where him and storm are falling for each other and another when they are boyfriend and girlfriend).
But, what is happening is everyone is trying to get PAID!! They are trying to bring all these child hood comic dreams to life and are making a killing on it, but only disappointing the true fans. Wolverine was an OKAY movie...but with the storyline behind Wolverine it should have been a Phenomenal movie. It had all the potential to be great. And of course the ladies have been swooned by the physical stature of Logan so you can not really look to them to get a true feeling on the movie they saw. Because I am sure they only remember one or two parts...
General Striker played his part to a tee, sabertooth was a hell of a villain but don't remember him having enough intelligence to walk in a straight line...Gambit made his guest appearance and served as a purposeful character...but I feel like he was just placed in the movie so that if they wanted to push a Gambit movie they could do that as well...but other than that it was random that he was in the movie. And the villanous team that were assembled by Striker was pretty fresh.
The movie would not get anything more than five (if that)...I did not leave the theater feeling like WOW...and I am simple guy and it takes little to nothing to entertain me...but it had a few lame aspects and it did teach me to not trust woman...(ku ku kachu my a*#) and the CGI got a little too unreal for me and I was trying to fight this fake background thing going on...Young Cyclops had a bit more testicular fortitude this time around but still had the characteristics of a Preying Mantis (look at a preying mantis and see how they hold there hands...lmao!)...I just dont know anymore about these movies...Transformers better not disappoint me, I tell you that! My homegirl said she wanted to watch the Tranformer movie a little bit more than Wolverine when she saw the trailer...But I dont know...it was not a horrible movie, but it would not go down in the TOP OF TIPPITY TOPS neither...lol! What are your feelings??!?!? Please let me know, help me see the light!!
Oh...but the fight scenes were dope!!! I will not take that from the movie...But, this is just my feelings as a whole...but I digress...Marvel you my dude...but your track record is kind of OFF by a lot...Well, thanks for reading this...
Sincerely,
Nemo da Fishman
Agreed with all the above. But I mostly fault myself for that because I should've known better. I don't know about others, but as for me, when I get overly excited about going to see something, 95% of the time I leave disappointed.
ReplyDeleteThe movie did have its high parts tho, its just too bad that most of it came in the beginning of the movies as they it began to announce the cast and at the end during the last battle and in the trailer :/
Speaking with others who saw the movie and who were die hard X-men fans (comic readers/religious cartoon watchers) all agreed that it was a disappointment compared to what it could've/should've been. I personally didn't read the comics and watched the cartoon when I could would rate it a 7 out of 10 and I only hope the rest of the movies for the summer surpass this rating (TRANSFORMERSSS).
I am just glad I am not a lone on my thoughts...THe movie was good but you just knew something was missing.
ReplyDeleteIts crystal clear now...the reason why this movie would be so amazing to anyone is because they do not really pay attention to X-men or know anything about Wolverine. They are just going because its a summer movie and it had a lot of action scenes in the trailer. So that swarm of people would have enjoyed this movie thoroughly and not realized that it was not up to par at all!! its all clear now@@
ReplyDeleteOkay, okay--time for my 2 cents.
ReplyDeleteSo the reason you hated Watchmen was what? It lasted too long and had too much in it right? You felt certain things could have been knocked out. It was three hours, etc...well let's just say Wolverine is the opposite.
In order to make a movie that actually does the comic/cartoon justice (in ONE movie) it has to be superrrr long--let's think about the craze that is Harry Potter. People like for the movie to stick to the script when there are enough dedicated fans.
So...Wolverine did not suck...it was good. I don't know the history but now am interested in doing more research on it because I found it to have a pretty good storyline. Some of the graphics, such as his claws at certain points in the movie were done in such a tragic fashion that looked SO fake...but I mean...when you don't have the same graphics team stuff happens.
Now as far as the acting goes...they had to make Victor a little smarter because in all honesty, if he wasn't he would make a crappy enemy especially with Logan being...well...Logan.
On another note...those first 20 mins with the opening credits & fighting was REAL. I was told that if I was going to see the movie in theaters to not miss that part. Amazingness. *sigh*
Oh...and Hugh Jackman is on POINT. =)
I get what you're saying Nemo about sticking to the artistic integrity of the comic. I personally didn't read the comics but I most definitely watched the cartoons...I haven't seen the Wolverine movie yet, but I've heard mixed reviews...the same with Watchmen.
ReplyDeleteI can see where you're coming from with Marvel not sticking to the details, but the fact of the matter is, is they have to please the masses. There are definitely more people that have seen the past 3 X-men movies than people who've seen/read the comics and the cartoons, so they have to think money wise... they've spent millions on dollars on this movie, so they have to make sure that the people who've been following the past 3 movies and got hooked on Wolverine, pay to go see the movie...and if they make a movie that only the true fans can follow, then they'd piss off alot more people. I guess the true fans have to suffer in the Marvel endeavor to make money.
It's the same thing with Harry Potter. I've read all the books (some 2 and 3 times over), and seen all the movies thus far... however I can personally say that I enjoy the books alot more because they leave out way too many details in the movie. But like the person above me said, the movie makers can't be expected to put a whole book word for word, detail for detail in a movie lasting under 3 hours. (lord knows i won't be sitting in a movie for more than 3 hours...unless i get a bathroom break! lol)
Either way, I plan to see it, just to formulate my own opinion, and I don't think I'll waste money because I'm sure I'll be entertained (I'm an action flick chick myself!), but I'm NOT missing the new Transformers movie!!
Young Cyclops had the characteristics of a praying mantis? I read that...read the part right after...and was rollin! especially cuz I've always felt that about Cyclops.
ReplyDeleteHaven't seen the actual movie just yet (seen the leaked unfinished one about halfway through)...but I'm seein' it for the free anyways!
