Interview with Andre Jones Brother of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc.
Nemo: So Dre, how do you feel about your event LAST NIGHT?
Andre: I feel like out of all four years of Jouvert that THIS WAS THE PEAK of this event. There is more to come, the food was amazing the drinks were just flowing. It felt like nothing could go wrong. There was lightening before the event and it did not rain.
Nemo: So you said you had a great event, great atmosphere, definitely one of the best JOUVERT'S
Andre: Right
Nemo: How much time went into setting up the event?
Andre: Literally 1 YEAR! It started from us securing the venue after last years Jouvert.
Nemo: And how much sleep did you get last night
Andre: I didnt (LAUGHS) I didnt get any sleep last night (laugs again) There is no sleeping at Jouvert.
Nemo: And what do you think makes this event successful every year?
Andre: Just like the need for people to be different out here. There is a lot of people that want that culture back. Its a lot of carribeans out here but there is no even that goes on like that so they can express there culture. It takes you out of the club and it allows you to just express yourself with no boundaries. There is no one shutting the party down, there is no one there to judge you, its like one of the few of the events for you to express yourself freely no matter what. It really takes you away from the norm.
Nemo: and how do you think your supporters felt after the event
Andre: I mean FACEBOOK blew up after the event. We made sure we covered all facets. I was at the door when people were leaving and I was just asking people what they think and people were like "it was the BEST PARTY OF THE YEAR" "AMAZIING" this was pretty much the first year where no one complaint. No complaints about the food, about drinks or nothing for the night.
Nemo: And who were the DJ's
Andre: DJ Brucki, Renaissance, Black Chiney and Crown Prince.
Nemo: And how did yall manage to get these DJ's to come out to such a small city
Andre: really it was just a combination of the name of the event, the past success of the first 3 Jouvert's and alot of the DJs were from [places like] miami, jamaica and with networking and making connections that is how we got through to them.
Nemo: Okay, Cool...What was one highlight that just captured you for the night...
Andre: One highlight (pauses) When...oh my gosh...it was like the whole night was the highlight honestly. As soon as the music turned on like I was just going crazy for the whole night.
Nemo: And how many people [would you say] were in attendance?
Andre: I would have to say this year that it was over a 1000
Nemo: So how will you top this event next year being that everything was so successful this year? Cause thats usually the biggest challenge.
Andre: Now we are gonna shift gears to get more sponsors. This year we had MONSTERS energy drink and just getting more sponsors and increase the patronage. Reaching out to people not just in Florida but in the golf coast region.
Nemo: So what would you say for those who missed the event?
Andre: For those who missed it...BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME!!
Nemo: (LAUGHS) Better luck next time, your a pretty mean guy
Andre: (Laughs) its true tho, like honestly you just hold your event to SELL TICKETS but this year I just wanted everyone to experience JOUVERT I just wanted everyone to have a good time.
Nemo: And any final words about the event...
Andre: JOOOOOOUUUUUUVEEEEEEERRRRRRTTTTTTTTTT!!!!
Nemo: Well this was a privilege doing this interview. Best of Luck and I am happy that your event was a SUCCESS!
Andre: (Laughs)
Nemo: Stop laughing (nemo laughing) while im interviewing you.
Andre: Me and Jahrue were promoting for Ape Escape 3...
Nemo: Thats what it is!!! We appreciate that!! Please believe!! Alright singing out! Your favorite FISH! (andre interrupts)
Andre: Yo nemo, why werent you there!?!?
Nemo: Phuck you! lol! Jk! I was at home resting...Its all love tho! Shout out to the IOTAS!!
Be on the lookout for APE ESCAPE 3!!!!
on the real my favorite aspect of the night had to be the "dance like a white person" part. that shit was crazy. Black Chiney ripped it, da whole crowd was into it. it was unexpected, out of the norm, Dope.
ReplyDeleteNemo, you know I had to offer my 2cents...
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Jonathan B... the "dance like a white person" was AMAZING!! I don't even think we can call it white people music lol... cuz everyone knew all the words to all the songs, was dancing and going nuts! Nirvana came on, BEP "Gotta Feeling", "What is Love"... everyone was just having a great time and just released for the night. Hands down, Black Chiney was THE best DJ that night... played great music, great mixes, and really interacted with the crowd... that "Britney your mom's outside" joke was HILARIOUS!
But i gotta say I'm sad I missed the dude who was breakdancing to "I'm on a boat"...If i saw that, that would've definitely been the best part of the night.
Overall, the event was a HUGE hit. I went last year, and this year was SOOO much better! The food lasted a really long time (i didn't eat any, but my friends kept going back), the drinks were always there ( i didn't drink either except for water), the DJs were on point, and as far as the Iotas really reaching out to people, they did a really good job of getting people to come who've never come before, because I definitely saw a lot of my friends there who never went after all their years here at UF. Even in comparison to last year, when they were threatening to tow people's cars, that was not at all the case this year... there were literally no problems the entire night!
All in all, it was a GREAT night! Can't wait for next year!

ReplyDeleteI think the best part of the whole night was watching that super drunk girl find a strong enough vine in some random tree and swing from it for like 30 minutes before someone threw a bucket of paint at her. ( like legit, the actual bucket)
